Picking Your Eggs

May 26th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Back in my day, we called a tomato a tomato. Now you have to pick what type, if it’s organic or not, and all that stuff. I only realized that the same thing happened to chicken eggs when my wife pointed it out to me on a trip to the supermarket. So, what variations of eggs can you now buy?

1. Omega 3 Eggs – Ah yes, Omega-3. Helps with our heart. I just didn’t expect that they be put into eggs. Don’t be fooled, though. Not only is it more expensive, but you’re better off eating fish.

2. Organic Eggs – What, we have organic eggs now? The chickens that lay these eggs are fed organic feed, set free most of the time, is persuaded, not forced, to lay eggs in the right place, and can’t be treated medically unless it’s critical. To be honest, to me it’s just another marketing ploy.

3. Brown Eggs – These are just eggs that come from a different kind of chicken. Yet they get their own box. Strange. They cost about the same though, so get some if you like.

Does anyone here eat these eggs regularly? Do they taste good? I’d like very much to know.

I’ve written about eggs before, but basically the only choice you have is on how the chickens were kept: barn, cage or free-range. I prefer barn laid eggs myself, for ethical reasons.
